បងប្អូនទាំងពីរនាក់នេះរស់នៅយ៉ាងលំបាក់។
បងប្រុសមានចិត្តសន្តោសប្រណីចំពោះប្អូនស្រីនិងថែរទាំនាងគ្រប់បែបយ៉ាងទាំងអស់។
រាល់ថ្ងៃបងតែងតែដើរជីកមើមដំឡូងខ្ជឹងមកស្ងោធ្វើជាអាហារ។

មានថ្ងៃមួយប្អូនស្រីគិតឆ្ងល់ក្នុងចិត្តក៏និយាយសួទៅកាន់បងថា “នែបង! អោយខ្ញុំញាំខាងក្បាលនិងខាងចុងមើលម្តងមក”។
បងប្រាប់ប្អូនថា “ទេប្អូនស្រីខាងហ្នឹងអត់ឆ្ងាញ់ទេ”។
ពេលនោះនាងគិតក្នុងចិត្តថា “បងនេះចិត្តអាក្រក់ណាស់មានរបស់ឆ្ងាញ់ញាំតែម្នាក់ឯង”។
When the potato was
boiled well, the brother orphan generally cut the head and the end of potato to
eat and passed the middle part to his sister. One day, his sister wondered why

បងក៏លួងថា “ប្អូនស្រីឈប់យំទៅបងមិនចង់ឃើញឯងយំតទៅទៀតទេ។ ណ្ហើយចុះ!
បងយកឯងទៅជាមួយបងម្តងឯងឈប់យំទៅណា!។
The next day, he prepared
himself to dig potatoes as usual. Suddenly his sister sobbed behind him and

He took his sister’s hand
and walked across the field and through the forests very far away under the
bean of sun light. Sooner or later, they came to a forest, he turned to his

They started digging
around the potatoes. When the girl saw a big potato, then she thought, “This

her brother dug out the deep hole until the end of potato.

គ្រាន់តែនាងញាំបានបន្តិចនាងក៏ខ្ជាក់ដំឡូងចេញមកវិញដោយនិយាយទាំងទឹកភ្នែកថា “អីយ៉ា! អាមួយនេះមិនឆ្ងាញ់សោះ
រស់ជាតិល្វីងចត់ហើយច្រុបៗទៀតផង វាមិនផុសល្អដូចសាច់កណ្តាលនោះសោះ ពិតជាបងប្រុសនិយាយមិនខុសមែន”។
On the way home, she ran

Then she felt conscious
that she thought her brother was not good. Now she made her strong decision
that when her brother came back, she had to obey and respect him all the time.
Thinking so, she sat up in front of the house to wait for her brother. She was
very upset while she was waiting for her brother a whole day.

នាងខំសំឡឹងមើលអ្វីៗដែលនៅជុំវិញខ្លួនពោរពេញទៅដោយភាពស្ងាត់ជ្រងំ។ នាងទ្រាំតទៅទៀតមិនបានទេ
ព្រោះកន្លងមកមិនដែលបាត់បងយួរដូច្នេះឡើយ។
At night she sat by the
fire to get rid of her fear. She waited for a full night, but her brother
didn’t come back. She shed tear with despair. She tried to look at everything
in a silent situation. She could not stand anymore because she had never lost
her brother such a long time before.

អត់បាយអត់ទឹកវង្វេងក្នុងព្រៃតែម្នាក់ឯងគ្មានគោលដៅ។
She could not stop her
fear, so she went out to look for her brother with sorrow. She made her effort
to find him everywhere in the forest. She cried and shouted, “Brother! Where
are you? Do you hear me? You are my life. I can’t live without you. You must
come back to me.” She ran up and down from one bush to another bush without
eating and drinking, and she got lost in the forest alone.

បងលែងបានចិញ្ចឹមបីបាច់ថែរក្សាប្អូនស្រីជាទីស្រលាញ់របស់គេទៀតហើយ។ ដោយសារតែនាងអត់អាហារច្រើនថ្ងៃ
នាងក៏អស់កម្លាំងខ្សោយទៅៗ ក៏ដួលសន្លប់ក្នុងព្រៃភ្នំនោះបាត់ទៅ។
She tried to look for her
brother for a few days, but what had happened could not return at all. Her
brother could not hear her. He had suffocated in the soil. He could no longer
take care of his lovely sister. Because she was starved for many days, she was
very exhausted, and then she fainted in the forest.

គឺគេស្រែកហៅរកបងប្រុសរបស់គេ។ ដូច្នេះហើយបានជាគេលឺសំលេងសត្វតាវ៉ៅយំកាន់ខ្លាំងឡើងៗនៅរដូវប្រាំងរហូតមកដល់សព្វថ្ងៃនេះ។
Because of her
misfortune, while she just fainted, her soul came out to be born as “cuckoo”
since then. Therefore in every dry season when people dig the potatoes, the
cuckoo always cries, “Tohou…”every day. This is the sound she cries for her
brother. That is why the sound of cuckoo is heard and its sound is heard louder
and louder in dry season until today.
